Examination Matters

In principle, you can withdraw from exam registration without providing a reason. However, please consider the relevant consequences of withdrawal. For instance, in the case of second or third exam attempts and other examinations that come with a deadline (as specified in the examination regulations), not taking these exams without providing recognized reason would still lead to a failed examination, even with prior withdrawal!

Withdrawal without reason:

  • You can withdraw online without providing reason until 24:00 (midnight) on the day before the examination date through the examination portal.
  • You can also withdraw in person at the examination room on the day of the examination, immediately before the start of the exam, by signing with the examiner.

Important:

If you fail to take any examination that you are registered for without a prior withdrawal or valid reason, such as a medical attestation stating your inability to take the exam, said examination will be considered failed and assessed with the grade 5. Please especially do NOT just withdraw from second or third examination attempts or exams with a deadline if you would withdraw due to illness, as withdrawal would still lead to a failed examination in these cases.

Rather consider the following procedure:

Non-attendance due to illness/incapacity to take exams

A medical certificate, issued no later than on the day of the examination itself, is required to substantiate illness-related inability to take examinations. Starting from the winter semester of 2023/2024, a normal sick bill (GER: Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung) will no longer be accepted. You need a special attestation for exam incapacity filled out by your doctor.

We recommend using the certificate printout „Ärztliche Bescheinigung für Nichtantritt zur Prüfung“, but your Doctors can also issue their own certificate for this purpose.

  1. You must submit the medical certificate to the Department of Student Affairs promptly, no later than three working days after the examination date to
    Dezernat.Studienangelegenheiten[at]fh-zwickau.de.
  2. Initially, the examiner will record a grade of 5 and "NE" (not attended, GER: nicht erschienen) on the grading sheet. Once the Examination Office receives the grading sheet from the examiner, provided that the certificate was submitted within the deadline and a positive decision was made, the medical certificate will be retroactively booked as "AT" (medical attestation). However, this process may take some time.
  3. In case of questions or the need for additional documents, the Examination Office/Examination Committee will get in touch with you.
  4. A possible rejection of the medical certificate will be made in writing by the Examination Committee of your faculty.
  5. In the case of recognition, the deadlines for the examination (or second or third attempt) will be extended, and the examination can be taken in the same attempt at the next available date.
