Bow making

A Pilot Project: Bow Making in the Musical Instrument Making Program at WHZ

As part of a pilot project, the Musical Instrument Making program in Markneukirchen is offering places for students specializing in bow making in the winter semester. This initiative addresses the critical shortage of skilled workers in this specialized craft.

Course Structure and Internship Semester

The program comprises eight semesters of standard study time, including an internship semester in the seventh semester, which is completed at domestic or international companies. This practical experience allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life work environments and build valuable professional networks.

Admission Requirements and Aptitude Test

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be admitted to the program:

  • University entrance qualification
  • Completed vocational training as an instrument maker or bow maker
  • Passing an aptitude test, which includes the following:
    • Submission of self-made instruments or bows
    • Practical work sample
    • A suitability interview to assess the applicant's motivation and suitability for the program

Qualifications and Career Opportunities

Graduates of this program will not only qualify by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, but will also have the opportunity to take the master bow maker examination. The practice-oriented training, combined with academic studies, optimally prepares students for a career in modern bow-making workshops.

Limited Places

To ensure high-quality training and individualized support, a maximum of three places will be offered for the winter semester 2025/2026. This limited capacity guarantees that each student receives intensive and personally tailored, practical support.
