Master's degree in Acoustics and Technology of Musical Instrument Making
The Master's degree program is aimed at musical instrument makers of all instrument types, but also at graduates of various technical disciplines such as media technology, electrical engineering, acoustics, sound engineering or mechanical engineering. It is a postgraduate course for graduates of the Bachelor's degree course in Musical Instrument Making and related courses.
The course combines training in musical acoustics with modern technologies such as lightweight construction, the use of alternative materials, reverse engineering and the study of the methodology of scientific work. The course is complemented by an examination of business models for small and medium-sized enterprises.
In addition to the compulsory modules, the following optional specializations are possible: Sound Engineering, Special Restoration Techniques and Historical Musical Instrument Making and the Technologies Used.
The Master's degree course aims to train individuals who are able to manage companies in the field of musical instrument making and related areas, plan and lead research projects, develop products and plan and organize their production, as well as initiate, design and coordinate innovative processes. Furthermore, the course is aimed at students who generally wish to work in the field of research and development in companies, institutes and other facilities within the aforementioned specialist areas
Start of studies
The Master's degree course in Acoustics and Technology in Musical Instrument Making can be started in the winter semester.
Duration of study
The standard period of study for the Master's degree course in Acoustics and Technology in Musical Instrument Making is 2 semesters. Students earn 60 ECTS credits.
Degree
The course concludes with a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Musical Instrument Making.
