The Kieser Guitar Collection

Wolfgang Kieser (Sommerhausen)/ Jochen Rötel (Sommerhausen)

Allegedly, Johann Wolfgang Goethe once wrote, "Collectors are happy people." Whether this quote actually originates from Goethe is not definitively proven, but the statement seems to be true. Wolfgang Kieser has been experiencing the joy of collecting guitars since 2016. Since then, he has acquired a significant collection of classical, predominantly Spanish guitars, including instruments from the most important guitar makers of the 19th and 20th centuries. To name just a few: Antonio de Torres, Enrique Garcia, Daniel Friedrich, Edgar Mönch...

Wolfgang Kieser, together with Jochen Röthel, will present selected instruments from the collection as part of the workshop. Kieser will speak about the practical aspects of collecting and share his passion with the participants. The discussion will not only focus on his personal collection but also on his experiences with the market for collectibles, the pricing of historical instruments, and the question of why one collects guitars in the first place. Jochen Röthel, a master guitar maker responsible for the maintenance of the collection, knows it like no one else. He will explain the technical and constructional features of the guitars brought in and illustrate them directly on the instruments.

After the introductory lectures, participants will have the opportunity to handle the instruments themselves, examine them up close, and play them. Additionally, personally brought instruments can be directly compared with the collection pieces in terms of construction, appearance, and sound.
