Seminar aims

Distant Education is done since more than 100 years. It went online using radiotelephony in Australia some 80 years ago. With upcoming of computer technology sending tapes, disks, CD-ROMs etc. a soft digitalization was started in the 1990s. By wide use of internet many experiments (think of MOOCs in the early 2010s) went on. Then COVID pandemic hit the world and all educational institutions had to re-think online teaching and online education. Many points had to be considered and re-considered, depending on scope, age of learners, quality of internet and end-user devices etc.The seminar will exchange ideas of current and future developments in online education, show best practice models, discuss solutions and foster exchange of ideas. WHZ Zwickau has more than 30 years of experience in distant teaching and nearly 20 years in international distant online education, especially to the region of Central Asia. However, these experiences can be and should be adapted to other parts of the world. WHZ Zwickau is interested as well in receiving input from many participants who have developed own solutions for pressing questions in online education. The exchange in the seminars and forums will be valuable for both, participants and organizers alike.Main objective is to enhance competence in answering the challenges of the Digitalization, Online Education, Economic and Societal Development in this context. Current trends and development in line with didactics, teaching, education, fitness for workforce etc. will be presented and discussed as well as topics concerning support systems and their impact on teachers, university structures, society, work environment and sustainability goals. The seminar and conference visit are offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the framework of the programme SDG Alumni Projects (http://www.daad.de/sdg-alumni-projects). The International Germany Alumni Seminar is organized and hosted by the WHZ Zwickau University of Applied Sciences. The costs will be mainly covered by funds from the DAAD provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).The seminar is scheduled in the run-up to the conference Online Education Berlin OEB Conference 2022 (https://oeb.global).
