About us

The Center for Communication Technology and Information Processing (ZKI) is a central institution of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau and serves to support teaching, studying and research.

The ZKI is responsible for the development and operation of a balanced IT infrastructure for the entire university and creates the IT-technical prerequisites for modern study conditions and rational administrative processes.

One of the central tasks of the ZKI is the secure and reliable operation of the data network and the associated central network and communication services. This includes a high-performance network from the campus backbone to the computer cabinets, lecture halls, workstations, and dormitories, as well as the university's high-performance external connections to national and international networks. The university locations Schneeberg, Reichenbach and Markneukirchen are also integrated into the data processing infrastructure.

The ZKI advises and supports the users of the university in IT matters and, together with the ZKI advisory board, develops conceptual recommendations for the long-term development of information technology at the university.

In order to ensure teaching, the ZKI operates various computer cabinets, which are centrally planned for courses by the Department of Student Affairs and are available to all members and staff of the WHZ outside of courses. Furthermore, IT-specific services are offered and the procurement and servicing of hardware and software is coordinated centrally.
